Reference

The Reference tool lets you create a link to other pages or items within your account. It could be a project, task file or something else. The reference tool creates connections so you can link to something that already exists rather than add it again.

To get started, go to the project you want to add a reference to and click the "+ Add Tools" button:
Then from the tools popup choose the "Reference" tool:
When you do this, you'll see a new popup that asks for some information to create the reference:

Complete this as follows:
  • Image - This is an image or emoji that will be used in the tool card.
  • Project - This is the project the item you want to reference already exists on.
  • Tool - This will become active when you choose a project. It lets you choose the tool that contains the item you want to link to.
  • Item - This is the item within the tool you want to link to.
  • Name - This is a name for the reference. Use something descriptive so other people who have access to the project know what it is.
  • Description - This description is used in the tool card. It's a short bit of supporting text to help people understand what the embed is.

When you save, the reference will show as a tool card on your project, for example:
And then, when you click on the tool card the reference will open up in the most appropriate way.

Using the reference tool saves you from adding the same thing to multiple projects. You can add something once and then link to it using the reference tool.

Bear in mind that people need to have access to the project you reference in other to be able to open the reference link. If they don't have access to the project you include in the reference then they will see an error when they try to open it.

Using with the Resources tool

The resources tool is a list of all the 3rd party embeds, embed URLs, embed codes, links and references you have added to a project. The resources tool lists all these items so you can add many of them without them cluttering up your project dashboard. For more information see  Resources
