How notifications work in Project.co

This page explains how notifications work in  Project.co  and guides you through managing your notification settings to ensure you receive updates in a way that suits you best.
To avoid overwhelming your inbox, we send email notifications as an hourly roundup. You’ll only receive an email if you have unread notifications from the past hour, and it will include only those unread notifications. In-app and mobile push notifications are sent instantly.
We also send an email displaying your overdue and due tasks once per day. You can decide below if you want to receive this.

How to Edit Your Notification Settings

To manage your notification preferences, follow these steps:
Navigate to your user preferences by clicking on your profile picture or name, then selecting "Your preferences".
On the left-hand sidebar, click on "Notification settings".
Within the "Notification settings" section, you will find various categories of notifications, each with options for how you receive them:
  • Project notification preferences: These settings control notifications related to your projects, such as new discussion comments, when you are @mentioned in a project discussion, or when you are invited to a project.
  • Task notification preferences: These settings manage notifications for tasks, including when you are assigned to a task, new discussion comments on tasks, when you are @mentioned in a task discussion, when you are added as a follower to a task, or when a task is updated.
  • File notification preferences: These settings cover notifications related to files, specifically new discussion comments on files and when you are @mentioned in a file discussion.
  • DM notification preferences: These settings are for direct messages, including when you are invited to a direct message group, new discussion comments in a direct message, and when you are @mentioned in a direct message discussion.
For each of these categories, you can choose to receive notifications in three ways by checking or unchecking the corresponding boxes:
  • In-App: These notifications appear instantly within the  Project.co  application.
  • Mobile: These are instant push notifications sent to your mobile device.
  • Email: These notifications are sent to your email address.

General Email Preferences

Below the specific notification categories, you will find a "General emails" section where you can manage broader email preferences:
  • Hourly update email (only when you have unread notifications): You can choose to receive an hourly email that summarizes your unread notifications.
  • Daily tasks email: You can choose to receive a daily email about your tasks. For this email, you can also set a specific time for it to be sent and select your preferred timezone.

How Notifications Work

Project.co  sends two types of summary emails to keep you informed:
  • Hourly Update Email: This email is an hourly roundup of any unread notifications you have received. It includes:
  • Details of new notifications such as project invites, task assignments, direct message invites, project updates, task updates, file uploads, and new discussion comments.
  • Information about unread comments, grouped by discussion, showing the project name, discussion name, the count of unread comments, and a snippet of the comment content.
  • Daily Tasks Email: This email is sent once a day at your chosen time and timezone. It includes:
  • Tasks that are due today.
  • Tasks that are due tomorrow.
  • Tasks that are overdue.
In-app and mobile push notifications are sent instantly as events occur, providing immediate alerts for important activities. Email notifications, on the other hand, are designed as periodic summaries to help you manage your inbox efficiently.
