Recurring tasks will auto create the next recurrence when they are marked as completed.
The most up to date recurrence is called the master task. It has a "Master" label next to it in the tasks views.
If you change any data on the "Master" task it will change the future tasks that are created from it. For example, changing the recurrence settings, assigned people, details in the task description, the task name etc. All these details will be copied to future recurrences.
You can also stop the task recurring by changing the recurring settings of the "Master" task so it is not recurring any longer.
