Use a project template

This page explains how to use an existing project template to create a new project and clarifies the distinction between a project and a template.

How to Use a Project Template

Project templates allow you to quickly set up new projects with pre-defined structures, saving time and ensuring consistency.
Initiate New Project Creation: To start, click the "New Project" button on the All Projects page. This action opens a popup window where you can choose how to create your new project.
Select a Template: Within the "New Project" popup, you will see an option to select a template. Choose the desired template from the available list.
Create Project from Template: After selecting your template, click the "Create Project" button. The system creates a new project based on the chosen template, copying all its pre-configured elements such as tasks, file folders, and notes. You are then automatically directed to the home page of your newly created project.

Difference Between a Project and a Template

In  Project.co , templates are projects with a few distinctions:
  • Project: A project is an active, ongoing work item where you manage tasks, collaborate with team members and clients, share files, and track progress. Projects are typically unique endeavors with specific start and end dates, and they are where the actual work is performed and tracked.
  • Template: A template is a blueprint or a pre-configured structure designed to be reused. It contains a predefined set of tasks, file folders, notes, and other elements that can be duplicated to create new projects. Templates are not active work items themselves; instead, they serve as a starting point to ensure consistency and efficiency when initiating similar projects. When you use a template, you are essentially creating a new project that inherits all the settings and content from that template.
In a template you can't add discussion comments or files. These things are reserved for projects. Aside from this, you can add all the data you need to a template so it is passed through to any projects you create from it.
